Asa Akira

Asa Akira was born Asa Takigami on January 3, 1986, in New York City. She spent her early childhood in Manhattan until age nine, when her family moved to Tokyo, Japan, due to her father’s job as a photographer. Returning to the U.S. at 13, she settled in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, and later Downtown Brooklyn, attending schools like Washington Irving High School. She briefly studied at Hunter College before dropping out. Her ethnicity is Japanese, inherited from her parents, and she identifies as Japanese-American, fluent in both English and Japanese.
